Acne Problems and Different Types of Acne

Almost everyone has had acne at one point or another in their life. It is estimated that 80% of people fall into this category. It is found more often in those ranging in age from 13-19. However, many who are age 20 to 40 also experience acne. There are many different things that can cause acne for many different people. For example, stress, that specific time of the month for a female, hormone imbalance, diet, etc. Acne is not generally considered to be a problem of medical magnitude. However, it does cause some people psychological issues as well as emotional issues. No one likes to look at acne. This is where the psychological and emotional feelings come into play for those who do have acne.
There has never been any definite reason found to cause acne. However, there have been many things identified that could trigger acne. For example, females can experience acne when their hormones are imbalanced due to using birth control, being that time of the month, being pregnant or poor nutrition from eating too many fatty foods, too many sweets or too much junk food. Males experience acne mainly throughout their years as a teenager due to their hormone levels being imbalanced constantly.
Acne is experience when the skin's oil glands are blocked at the surface of the skin and the oil has no way to escape. It is natural for the oil to get blocked and is rather common during the change in a child's life known as puberty. There are many triggers to cause the blockage such as a poor diet, hormone imbalances stress, shedding of dead skins cells irregularly, bacterial build up or the skin's oil being over produced. There are several completely different symptoms of acne as well as several completely different types of acne. When the oil is close to the surface and is blocked you will see what is called pustules or better known as whiteheads. The pustule will be rather painful if the oil happens to be stuck a little further below the surface of the skin. If the oil is stuck rather deep under the skin it can cause what is known as cystic acne. Just the same, many can see what are known as blackheads on the surface of the skin. Blackheads are formed when the oil is oxidized by the air after it breaks through the surface of the skin. The risk of acne is increased by using heavy makeup, eating a poor diet, taking certain medications, heredity and poor hygiene.
Acne comes in many forms. Severe, moderate and mild acne is also known as acne vulgaris. With acne vulgaris a person with acne will experience cysts, nodules, papules, pustules, blackheads and whiteheads. This all depends on how severe the acne condition is. When acne vulgaris becomes more severe, the person will experience folliculitis. Experiencing folliculitis is rather rare but can be treated.
Acne Rosacea is similar in look to severe conditions of acne vulgaris. Acne rosacea is usually found in people over the age of 30. It is described as a red rash that is spread over the chin, forehead, nose and cheeks. There generally are no signs of blackheads with acne rosacea. Females are more likely than males to have acne rosacea. However, males who do experience acne rosacea generally have more severe cases.
Acne Conglobata is a more severe form of acne and can cause damage to the skin that is not repairable. Acne Conglobata is found more in men than woman. It appears on the thighs, upper arms, back, chest and face. When acne conglobata is found suddenly to spread and become more severe, it is then called acne fulminans. Acne fulminans are cysts and nodules that are disfiguring and ulcerating as well as experiences aching joints and fevers.
An even more severe type of acne is pyoderma faciale. Pyoderma faciale is generally found in women aging 20 to 40 years old. These are rather large and painful pustules that will cause sores followed by scarring. This condition is usually only found on the face. Women who experience this also experience the psychological and emotional stress due to this factor. Pyoderma faciale is caused by poor hygiene, poor diet and stress. There are medications available to treat it.
